Germanium Granules for Vacuum Coating: Size, Resistivity and RFQ Tips

Germanium evaporation granules are feedstock for a deposition source, so size distribution, cleanliness and the way a charge fits the equipment matter alongside chemical purity. An RFQ should identify the coating process and the source manufacturer’s requirements before requesting a price per kilogram.
Specify a usable evaporation charge
Give the accepted minimum and maximum piece dimensions, the allowed fraction outside that range and whether fines must be limited. State whether material is supplied as irregular pieces, screened granules or another agreed presentation. A nominal size range is not a promise that every particle has the same geometry.
Match the charge to the boat, liner, crucible or hearth used by your process. Equipment compatibility and the operating recipe are engineering decisions: confirm them with the equipment supplier and qualify the offered material in your own process.
Keep chemistry and electrical requirements separate
State the purity basis and the elements that need individual limits. If resistivity, conductivity type or a dopant matters to your process, include it as a separate requirement with units, test conditions and an acceptance method. Do not assume that a headline purity percentage defines electrical behaviour.
| RFQ field | What to state |
|---|---|
| Physical presentation | Pieces or granules, size limits and permitted fines |
| Chemical acceptance | Purity basis, critical impurities and analytical method |
| Electrical acceptance | Resistivity range, type or dopant only where required |
| Charge quantity | Trial mass, production demand and unit pack size |
Qualify performance before repeat supply
A useful trial connects the supplied lot number with the coating run and the buyer’s acceptance results. Agree which checks belong on the supplier COA and which require the buyer’s deposition system. Retain the incoming material reference and record any conditioning steps used during the trial.
Specify clean inner packaging, unit mass and labelling appropriate to your handling procedure. Agree how opened containers and retained samples are identified. Packing and storage instructions should follow the SDS and the agreed material specification.
Compare a consistent commercial scope
Share the initial quantity, recurring forecast and receiving seaport when requesting a CIF quotation. Compare offers against the same size range, analytical scope, packing and inspection requirements. Confirm origin evidence and shipping documents for the offered supply. Trial terms, lead time and availability are established in the current written offer.
